Long Island Rough Riders News Release
Plainview, NY - The Rough Riders fell to their fifth defeat in six games this weekend in a tightly contested game at Lusitano Stadium against the Western Mass Pioneers.
In a first half that produced numerous chances the Rough Riders created the same amount of opportunities on goal (4-4) indicating they are more than capable of competing with one of the best teams in the division.
Another notable area of improvement was in the Rough Riders defense. Goalkeeper, Paul Grafer, who has consistently been one of the busiest goalkeepers in the division, had three saves to make during the entire game.
The game's deciding goal came in the 50 minute by the Pioneers. The physically imposing Neil Krause provided the assist to Ben Bingham game winning goal. Unperturbed the Rough Riders continued to apply pressure with a total of 9 shots in the second half. Moussa Sy and Derrick Etienne were both unsuccessful to ending the team's goal-less streak that dates back to the end of June.
After, the US Open Cup loss this week to the Ocean City Barons, Head Coach Ronan Wiseman was pleased that his team showed the necessary character, tenacity and skill to compete with the league leaders. Wiseman is hoping that his young and talented team is able to pull off a victory on Wednesday, July 6th when it plays the New Hampshire Phantoms at 12:00 noon at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
Final Score 1-0 Western Mass. Pioneers.
