Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, Ore. - The Medford Rogues (8-6) defeated the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox (3-9) 9-5 on Wednesday Night. Shortstop Chad Pike (Daytona State College) went 4-4 with two doubles, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.

Gold Sox leadoff hitter Josh Winkler singled to start the game, and eventually came around to score off a single by Darrel Doll.

In the bottom of the inning, first baseman Kody Garvin (Lewis-Clark State) was hit by a pitch. Right fielder Brandon Bena (Iowa Western) doubled to move Garvin to third.

Catcher Cole Elvis (UC-Berkeley, 2019) grounded out to second to score Garvin and tie the game.

The Rogues doubled three times in the second inning. Second baseman Riley Kasper (Saddleback College) lead off with a base hit to left field. He didn't stop running as he rounded first, and he slid in safely at second with a hustle double.

Designated hitter James Bell* (University of Oregon, 2019) doubled down the right field line in his first at bat as a Medford Rogue to score Kasper and give the Rogues the lead, 2-1.

Shortstop Chad Pike (Daytona State College) then doubled down the left field line to move Bell to third. Center fielder Cole Carder (Linn-Benton College) grounded out to short, which scored Bell.

Third baseman Tommy Ahlstrom (Simpson University) led off the fourth inning with a single. Pike singled to left field to move Ahlstrom to third. Again, Carder benefited from the hitting of Pike. Carder flew out to deep center to score Ahlstrom.

Gold Sox center fielder Brody Clifford doubled to lead off the sixth, and then took third on an error. Darrel Doll again came through for the Gold Sox, hitting a single up the middle to score Clifford.

The Rogues answered in the bottom of the sixth. Tommy Ahlstrom led off with a double, and then Pike doubled to left-center to score Ahlstrom. The throw from left field sailed wide of second base, so Pike picked himself up and hustled to third.

This time, Cole Carder got a base hit to score a run. Carder singled to drive in Pike.

In the seventh, Bena walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Left fielder Josh McIntyre (Fullerton JC) singled to left field to score Bena.

With the score 7-3 in favor of Medford, the Rogues gave up a single and five walks in the eighth inning to close the gap to 7-5. With the bases loaded, lefty reliever Robby Ahlstrom (Chemeketa CC) came in to face Steve Robinson, the Gold Sox number two hitter. Robby Ahlstrom got Robinson to ground out to first to end the inning.

The Rogues answered back with two of their own in the bottom of the eighth. Bell and Pike singled to lead off the inning. Carder grounded to shortstop but legged out to beat the throw at first to avoid the double play. Carder then stole second base without a throw.

The Rogues big hitters continued to produce RBI. Garvin hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Bell, and Bena singled to score Carder.

Robby Ahlstrom came back out and pitched a 1-2-3 scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

Starting pitcher Kolby Button (Shasta College) went six innings, he allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four. He earned his second win of the year.

The announced attendance for tonight's game was 886.
