PIFL Names Week 11 Players of the Week

June 5, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN (June 5, 2012) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) has named Albany Panthers QB Cecil Lester, Richmond Raiders LB Pierre Lee, and Knoxville Nighthawks K Alex Walls the Week 11 Players of the Week.

Proving his club isn't just about defense, on Saturday QB Cecil Lester (6'1 220, Fort Valley State) led his first-place Panthers to a nail-biting 74-64 victory over the Nighthawks accounting for nine of the clubs ten touchdowns. Lester earned the Week 11 PIFL Offensive Player of the Week after he tossed eight TD's and completed 24 of 41 passes while managing to pass for a league-high 311 yards.

In the game of football turnovers always prove to be the great equalizer on Saturday against the playoff seeking Alabama Hammers, the Raiders found themselves in the middle of a dog-fight as they watched a 19-point lead slip to just a two-point lead. Capped off by LB Pierre Lee's (6'0 190, Virginia St.) second interception, after the 14:45 4th quarter mark Richmond held Bama scoreless for the remainder of the game winning decisively 74-60. Lee's two picks earned him the Week 11 Defensive Player of the Week.

Despite coming up on the losing end on Saturday, Knoxville Nighthawks (1-9) gave the first-place Albany Panthers all they could handle taking the lead in the game on nine different occasions. K Alex Walls (6'0 205, Tennessee) earned the Week 11 Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on two field goals (27, 21), was a perfect 8 for 8 on PAT tries and notched three Uno's as his 16 points led all kickers for the week.

The PIFL regular season will resume with Week 12 action taking place this Saturday. With all four playoff positions already guaranteed, much is still left to be settled as Albany and Richmond look to seize home-field advantage while Columbus and Louisiana will try and maneuver away from being the fourth-seed.

Beginning at 7:00 PM ET, the Richmond Raiders (8-2) travel to face the Knoxville Nighthawks (1-9) while at 7:30 PM ET the PIFL's version of the Hatfield's and McCoy's will resume when the Albany Panthers (9-1) visit their in-state rival Columbus Lions (5-5) who hope to put an end to their two-game losing skid. Closing out the week will be the first of a home-and-home meeting between the Louisiana Swashbucklers (5-5) and Alabama Hammers (2-8) beginning at the Von Braun Center at 8:00 PM ET.
