Pierson earns honors

Alpena MI: The North American Hockey League announced today that Alpena IceDiggers forward Drew Pierson has been named the North Division Player of the Week.

It's the third straight week an IceDigger has won the award and the second time in three weeks Pierson has copped the honor.

The Pleasant Prairie, Wis., native recorded one goal and two assists in Alpena's 4-1 victory at Mahoning Valley on Friday. On Saturday, Pierson netted two goals and two assists as the IceDiggers fell 5-4 in a shootout.

In his last seven contests, the West Point recruit has been on fire, scoring seven goals and assisting on nine others.

"Drew has been playing really well the last three weeks," said IceDiggers coach-GM Kenny Miller he has been very successful this season."

Pierson is second on the club in scoring with 35 goals and 42 assist for 77 points. The 20-year old forward leads the NAHL with 17 power-play goals.

Netminder Mike Jarboe (Grosse Pte. Park MI), who won the player of the week award last week, was also nominated after going 1-0-1, only allowing five goals on 114 shots in the two games.

The IceDiggers finish the regular-season schedule with a Sunday afternoon game in Marquette. Face off is set for 1 p.m.
