March 27, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
The Wildcats faced their long-time rival, the Texas Tornado, this past weekend in a two game series playing in Frisco on Friday night and here at the KYC on Saturday. The Wildcats were hoping to end their season with a couple more wins on their record, but were unable to do so and finished the season with 22-34-6 record. They placed fifth in the NAHL South Division and were led in scoring by Adam Cardwell who finished the season with 56 points.
On Friday night the Tornado came out strong and had the Wildcats down by two only 5:36 into the game. The Wildcats offense was kept to only two shots on goal during that first period, but at the 9:56 mark Kyle Pidde blasted one past the Tornado defense to put the Cats within one. Adam Cardwell and Sean Nealon assisted Pidde on the powerplay goal. Over the next thirty minutes, the Tornado scored two more goals and the Cats trailed 4-1 after forty minutes of play. Texas would get the scoring started again in the third frame at the five minute mark, but would not score again for the remainder of the game. At the 18:37 mark, the Wildcats once again capitalized on the powerplay situation. Adam Cardwell and Zach Josepher got the puck to Skylur Jameson who took advantage of his position and netted his 18th goal of the season. It was too little, too late for the Cats and they fell short 5-2.
On Saturday night, the Wildcats played their final game of the 2006-2007 season and fell short 6-3. The Tornado were able to score only four minutes into the game, but the Cats fought back and tied the game only a minute later. Skylur Jameson got the scoring started for the Wildcats when he capitalized on the powerplay at the 5:14 mark of the first frame. Ricky Doriott and Adam Cardwell assisted Jameson on the play. The Tornado netted one more before the frame was over and started the second stanza with two more goals of their own, taking a 4-1 lead over the Cats. At the 14:14 mark of the second period, Chris Nutini and Ricky Doriott assisted Kyle Matson, who put the puck in the back of the net for the Cats, narrowing the Tornado lead. Unfortunately, the Tornado kept connecting and after ten minutes into the final frame, the Cats trailed 6-2. The Wildcats never gave in though and with forty seconds left in the game, Brian Downing scored one more for the Cats. Michal Hrtus and Adam Cardwell assisted Downing who blasted the puck past the Tornado goalie, scoring the Cats third and final goal of the game.
