Philadelphia Wings Trade in Red and Black for Orange and Black

February 19, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) will be trading in their traditional red and black uniforms in exchange for orange and black uniforms to signify a special partnership between the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and Flyers Charities as they host a Flyers-themed evening when they take on the Minnesota Swarm at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, February 23 at 4 p.m.

The evening will include a ceremonial face-off led by Flyers Legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Bernie Parent, Flyers inflatables along the concourse, custom orange and black outfits for the Angels Dance Team, and a post-game live auction of the special Flyers-themed jerseys with all proceeds benefiting Flyers Charities.

Coming up short in their last matchup against Buffalo last weekend, the Wings will look to end their current three-game losing streak.

"We struggled to put the ball in the net against Buffalo [last weekend]," said Assistant Coach Jim Milligan. "Minnesota is a solid team. We have to come prepared and control what we can as a team. On any given night, anyone can win."

The Wings play the Minnesota Swarm for the final time during the 2014 regular season. This marks the third game between the rivals in the NLL East Division. Both teams have been winless at home in their head-to-head series. All victories were earned on the road.

Minnesota narrowly survived in their first meeting against the Wings with a narrow 11-10 win in Philadelphia. The following day the Wings spoiled Minnesota's home opener soundly defeating the Swarm 15-8. Forwards Jordan Hall and Kyle Buchanan contributed eight points each in the victory.

"This is an important game for us," said Wings Transition Player CJ Costabile. "We are taking it a step at a time to make our way back to .500. It would be beneficial to win the series against Minnesota to have the tie-breaker against them in the East [Division]."

Forward Ryan Ward and Goalie Evan Kirk each face their former squad in Minnesota. Having faced the Swarm twice this season, Kirk has recorded one win while saving 78 of 97 shots on goal (.805 SV %). Ward has had a solid outcome in both games against the Swarm posting 14 total points (12 assists, two goals).

Minnesota has struggled this season, but Forward Callum Crawford has been a bright spot for the Swarm tallying 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in just seven games this season. He currently leads the Swarm in goals, assists, and points this season.

After Sunday's contest against Minnesota, the Wings will have a bye week during Week 10 and will resume play on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the Rochester Knighthawks. Philadelphia makes their way back to the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, March 16 at 4 p.m. to take on the Rochester Knighthawks.
