Philadelphia Wings Sting Minnesota 15-13, Inch Closer to Playoff Berth

April 7, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings bounced back from their loss in Rochester on Saturday night with a 15-13 victory over the Minnesota Swarm at Wells Fargo Center Sunday afternoon. The victory improves the team's record to 6-8 on the season as they remain in third place in the NLL's East Division.

Entering the fourth quarter tied 10-10, the Wings' stingy defense and timely goals from Michael Manley and Drew Westervelt were just enough to lead them past the Swarm.

The Wings, who have struggled all year in the first quarter, took control of the game early jumping out to a 5-2 lead after two goals from Kevin Crowley and one apiece by Kevin Ross, Kevin Buchanan and Paul Rabil. The team had a few defensive lapses in the second quarter however and fell behind 8-6 at the half, before rallying in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Wings forwards Drew Westervelt and Kevin Crowley led Philadelphia's offensive attack, tallying four goals and four assists apiece, a season high in points for Crowley. Other standouts included transition player Paul Rabil with five points and goal tender Brandon Miller, who registered 36 saves and kept his team in the game early with several athletic saves on multiple Swarm one-on-one breakaways.

The Swarm were also playing their second game in as many nights as they defeated the Buffalo Bandits 21-7 in Minnesota on Saturday.

The Wings return to action next week with their home finale against the division-leading Toronto Rock at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, April 13 at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. Tickets can be purchased online at WingsLAX.com, by phone at 215-389-WING or in person at the Wells Fargo Center box office.
