Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) have signed forward Drew Westervelt, defenders Jeff Reynolds and Eric Hoffman and goal tender Steve Fryer to one-year contracts for the 2013.
With the first signings of the season, the Wings organization is optimistic and determined going into the 2013 pre-season, which will begin with a rookie/free agent camp on Saturday, November 17 at Bucksmont Indoor Sports Center.
"Training Camp is right around the corner and will be very competitive," said Wings head coach and General Manager Johnny Mouradian. "Our players and coaching staff agree that we underachieved last season and have some unfinished business."
Westervelt, a sixth-year player out of University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), led the Wings in goals in last season, finding the net 38 times in 2012, including two goals in the NLL playoffs. The 6'5" forward added 19 assists, finishing the season with 57 points.
Defenseman Reynolds, who enters his fourth season in the NLL, finished the 2012 season with a team leading 166 recovered loose balls. Reynolds also won a career high 244 face offs last season, coming out the victor at a 60% rate.
Hoffman, a 6'4" defenseman, looks to make a strong return in 2013, after playing in 7 games for the Wings in 2012 and recovering 9 loose balls before suffering a season ending ACL injury.
Second-year goal tender, Fryer, acting as the primary backup to Brandon Miller, saw time in goal in seven games last year, allowing seven goals and making 14 saves, earning a 67% save rate. Fryer was picked in the fourth round by the Wings in the 2011 draft.
The Philadelphia Wings will open the 2013 season at home against the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 7 p.m.
