Philadelphia Wings Drop Season Finale to Colorado

Philadelphia, PA - Unable to secure a win on Fan Appreciation Night, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) were defeated by the Colorado Mammoth 13-12 at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.

"The tale of the season is another one goal game that got away from us," said Head Coach Blane Harrison. "The next step is time to assess the season and roster for next season."

Philadelphia opened their final game of the 2014 season ready to leave their fans with a memorable evening. The Wings went on a two score run with goals from Forwards Pat Saunders and Jordan Hall. Hall added his second goal of the night to give Philadelphia a 3-2 lead after the initial quarter of play.

The second quarter was won by Colorado. The Mammoth outscored the Wings 4-2 in the frame. Mammoth Forward Adam Jones recorded a first-half hat trick. Colorado and Philadelphia swapped scoring runs to tally their goals to close the first half. Colorado led 6-5 through the opening 30 minutes.

The Wings took control in the third. Philadelphia outscored Colorado 3-1. Forward Kyle Buchanan recorded his third goal of the night and third hat trick of the year. Wings Forward Bill McGlone added his first goal of the season in his first game of the year. Philadelphia carried an 8-7 lead into their final 15 minutes of play of 2014.

The final stanza was an all-out offensive battle. A total of 10 goals were scored between both teams and five lead changes took place. With less than three minutes to go in the quarter, the game was tied up 12-12. Mammoth Forward Jamie Shewchuk hit the game winning goal with 2:02 left, sealing the 13-12 victory.

Wings Forwards Garrett Thul and Kyle Buchanan contributed hat tricks on offense for Philadelphia. Third-year Forward Kevin Crowley led all runners in points scored with seven (one goal, six assists). Forward Jordan Hall tallied five points (two goals, three assists) and finished tops for the Wings in points (76) and goals (34) in 2014.

Colorado improved to 8-10 and enters the NLL playoffs as the third seed from the West Division. Forward Adam Jones led all scorers with five goals on the night. Former Philadelphia Wing, Athan Iannucci, contributed five points against his former team.
