Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (February 6, 2014) - The back-to-back American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul announce that Rod Miller will be joining the team for the 2014 season as assistant coach overseeing the secondary and special teams. Miller will be entering his first season with the Soul, after leading his previous team the Laredo Rattlesnakes of the LSFL to the championship game in both the 2012 and 2013 season. Under his guidance, the Rattlesnakes produced 10 all-league performers.

"Rod is a quality, veteran coach that will definitely bring a lot to the table for us," said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. "The fact that he has head coaching and AFL experience is a definite plus. His insight and on both sides of the ball will give us a lift, but his track record with the secondary and special teams will help us tremendously."

Although Miller is new to the Soul, he will be working with some familiar faces. He has coached current Soul players: Jason Jones, Bryan Robinson, Melik Brown, Jason Holman, and Kyle Whitehurst. In addition those players, Miller has also worked with newly acquired Soul players: QB Bryan Randall, who was voted the league's MVP and WR Damion Clark, who led the league in all statistics for the 2013 season.

Miller's previous AFL experience includes stints as the assistant coach for the Grand Rapids Rampage and Cleveland Gladiators. In 2008, he helped lead the Rampage to the American Conference Finals, led the league in the most Kickoff Return Touchdowns (8). Miller has spent time with numerous teams throughout his career as a coach. From 2000-06, he served six years in the af2, coaching the Carolina Rhinos and the Green Bay Blizzard. Miller then served as the head coach for the Omaha Beef of the IFL for two seasons.

In 2011, Miller joined Trenton Steel of the Southern Indoor Football League. After only being signed with the team at the beginning of the season, he led the Steel to a playoff berth with an 8-4 record and an average score of over 69 points per game. When the season concluded the Steel had four All-SIFL players and their kicker was named the Special Teams Player of the Year. With the help of his coaching, six of his players advanced to the Arena Football League.
