April 22, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Monday, April 22, 2013) - Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 8 of the 2013 MLS season.
Jack McInerney led the Philadelphia Union to a 3-2 victory over D.C. United, ending their three game winless streak. McInerney scored two goals in the first half to secure Philadelphia's lead for the rest of the game, and now leads the league in scoring with six goals.
McInerney opened up the scoring in 7th minute when Conor Casey played a through ball to McInerney, who settled it, split his defenders and struck a left footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner.
McInerney scored what was ultimately the game-winning goal in the 26th minute when Amobi Okugo's headed pass ended up at McInerney's feet and he left-footed the ball into the bottom right corner.
The Philadelphia Union are back in action this Saturday against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
