SOUL BAND & DRUMLINE MARCH THROUGH CITY The Philadelphia Soul Band & Drumline along with the Soul mascot SOULMAN marched through downtown Philadelphia today. The band made stops at familiar Philly hot spots such as Love Park, Comcast Center and City Hall, promoting the Soul's July 5 playoff game at the Wachovia Center.
NEW YORK AT DALLAS TO START AFL POSTSEASON TONIGHT The playoffs start tonight when the sixth-seeded New York Dragons (8-8) travel to take on the third-seeded Dallas Desperados (12-4) at 7:30 pm (et) on ESPN. The Eastern Division rivals played twice this season seeing the Desperados sweep the Dragons, winning 33-31 at New York and 51-49 win at Dallas. Dallas holds a 9-3 series edge. The game also features two of the most prominent QB's in AFL history in Dallas' Clint Dolezel and New York's Aaron Garcia. If Dallas wins they will play at Georgia Monday, July 7. If New York wins they will play at Philadelphia Saturday, July 5 at 7 pm (et).
WHAT'S UP TODAY...
The Soul players received treatment today, but didn't practice. Practice will resume Monday through Thursday next week. With no game of their own to play this week, the Soul players scheduled a team barbeque on Friday.
HE SAID IT...
Quarterback Tony Graziani yesterday on having off time during the bye week: "We can kinda all regroup, and its good for team bonding too. We're gonna have a barbeque tomorrow and all get together. It's nice."
SMITH NAMED TO ALL-IRONMAN TEAM Soul FB/LB Clifton Smith was named to the AFL's 2008 All-Ironman Team on Thursday. In his rookie season, Smith recorded 45 tackles and a sack on defense while running the ball 50 times for 133 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense. Smith is the ninth different member of the Soul to honored with an award this postseason. On Tuesday, kicker Connor Hughes was named to the All-rookie team. On Wednesday, QB Matt D'Orazio, WR Chris Jackson and OL Martin Bibla and Phil Bogle were named All-AFL First-Team, while DL Gabe Nyenhuis and Bryan Save and DB Eddie Moten were named to the second team. This marks the third straight season that the Soul were represented with selections on all four award teams.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
On Thursday the Orlando Predators re-signed wide receiver Chas Gessner who was previously waived on May 12 to attend camp with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.
Before departing for Seattle, Gessner was one of Orlando's best receivers posting 76 receptions for 801 yards and 20 touchdowns in the first 11 weeks of the season.
