Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (February 3, 2011) ‚¬" The Philadelphia Soul got a chance to sit down with two of their players, Darnell Whitley and Kent Richardson, to talk about their connections to the Green Bay Packers, the influence the Packers have had on them, and the upcoming Soul season.

Whitley, who will be entering his second AFL season as a lineman, has been a Packers fan since he was young. Richardson attended the Green Bay Packers ‚¬â„¢ Rookie Camp (2010) and will be joining the Soul as a wide receiver/defensive back.

Q: How long have you been a Packers fan'

DW: I grew up in Milwaukee, so I ‚¬â„¢ve been a Packers fan for as long as I can remember, or understand the concept of football.

Q: Is there anything you learned at the Green Bay Packers ‚¬â„¢ Rookie Camp that you will bring with you to the Soul'

KR: Just the overall knowledge of the game. The defensive schemes we practiced really opened my eyes to what was going on with everybody on the field rather than just my position. It made me aware of my surroundings and teammates so we could make more successful plays.

Q: Are there any players who influence how you play'

KR: Definitely, Charles Woodson. I have been studying his game since he was at Michigan, especially his knowledge of the game and where to be on the field. Also, Deion Sanders ‚¬" he ‚¬â„¢s an all-time great.

Q: How do you think Packer fans compare to Soul fans'

DW: From what I know, Soul fans are very loyal, and the Packers have one of the most loyal fan bases of any team. The Packers ‚¬â„¢ fans travel very well, so I hope Soul fans travel to watch us too.

KR: I get the sense that the Soul ‚¬â„¢s fan base is just like the Packers ‚¬â„¢ fan base. There is a strong fan support in Philadelphia and I ‚¬â„¢m excited to see that at our first home game and throughout the season.

Q: Are you ready for the Soul season to start'

DW: I ‚¬â„¢m definitely ready for training camp and to start up the season. I ‚¬â„¢ve been doing off-season workouts here at the Acceleration training facility. I ‚¬â„¢m getting ready and getting in shape. I ‚¬â„¢m excited to see everyone else come all ready and to get the season started.

Q: Do you have any goals for this year as an individual player' For the team'

DW: My personal goal is to become a captain for the team. I want to be a leader both on and off the field. For the team, my goal is definitely to make it to the playoffs and win the ArenaBowl championship.

Q: What are your predictions for the game on Sunday'

DW: Packers are going to blow out the Steelers, 28-14.

KR: Green Bay, 17-16.
