Philadelphia Soul Continue Teddy Bear Tradition

March 28, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (March 28, 2012) - The Soul will kick off their in-game community initiatives during their home opener against the Cleveland Gladiators on Sunday, April 1. The sixth annual Teddy Bear Drive will be held in support of the Philadelphia Children's Alliance. In past years, the Teddy Bear Drive has been an enormous success, providing bears to children who have been victims of sexual abuse.

"The goal is to collect as many teddy bears as possible for the victims of childhood sexual abuse," said Melissa Demyan, Director of Community Relations for the Soul. "The children are able to select a teddy bear after their interview at the PCA. By providing these bears, we can hopefully contribute to their healing process".

The Soul are asking everyone attending the game on Sunday to bring a teddy bear and, in return, they will be able to attend a private meet and greet with former Chicago Bear and Soul head coach, Doug Plank and linebacker Dusty Bear. Fans donating a bear upon entering the arena will be given a voucher for this exclusive event that will take place after the game.

During a break at the first home game, a check will be presented to the Philadelphia Children's Alliance from the funds raised during a full-day call to action hosted by the Philadelphia Soul and Greater Media. Fans will be asked to toss their teddy bears out onto the field to be collected by the team.

The Philadelphia Children's Alliance acts to create a coordinated multi-agency, interdisciplinary response to cases of child sexual abuse to promote healing and justice for all victims. The Philadelphia Children's Alliance will also be hosting the Bear Affair on Thursday, April 26. Additional information on how to attend the Bear Affair and other ways to help can be found at www.philachildrensalliance.org.
