Philadelphia Barrage News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rattlers defeated the Philadelphia Barrage 24-17 Saturday night at Bishop Kearney Field to give Rattlers Head Coach B.J. O'Hara his first Major League Lacrosse win.
The Rattlers were led by six-point nights from Casey Powell (3+3), Ryan Ward (4+2) and Kevin Cassese (4+2). Ward moved to attack tonight in the absence of Ryan Powell, who was in Baltimore coaching the Syracuse University Orangemen in the NCAA Final Four. Ward beat the city where he plays indoor lacrosse, as he suits up for the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League.
With the win, the Rattlers (1-1) moved into a three-way tie in the National Division. Philadelphia fell to 0-2 with the road loss. Rochester travels to play Boston (2-0) next Saturday at Nickerson Field at 7:00 p.m.
The Barrage were led by four points from Blake Miller (2+2) and three-point efforts from Roy Colsey (2+1+0), Keith Cromwell (2+1+0) and Matt Striebel (3+0). Greg Cattrano made 19 saves in the loss.
Goaltender Jake Coon made the start for the Rattlers and earned the win, making 16 saves. After the game, he drove to the Rochester Airport and took a flight to Baltimore to join the Nazareth College men's lacrosse team, as they prepare for the Division III National Championship Game Sunday afternoon. Coon works on the coaching staff, along with fellow Rattler Tim Booth.
In the first quarter, the game was tight as Rochester took a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes. Rochester, however, used a six-point effort in the second to pull ahead 10-6. The difference was a 6-1 run from the end of the first quarter to midway through the second.
In the second half, Rochester exploded for 10 points in the third quarter to lead 20-9. Ward was the catalyst, scoring four times and adding one assist. Midfielder A.J. Shannon chipped in two goals and one assist.
But Philadelphia clawed back into the contest with a four-goal run to cut the deficit to 20-13. The Barrage netted eight points in the fourth, courtesy of two-point goals from Cromwell and Colsey.
The Barrage return to action on June 6th as they host the Long Island Lizards at 4:00 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
