PHILADELPHIA LIBERTY BELLES BATTLE IT OUT AGAINST THE WOMEN OF Y100 RADIO AT SEASON OPENER
SOUTHAMPTON, PA -- The Philadelphia Liberty Belles, National Champions of the NWFL's (National Women's Football League) inaugural season, are preparing to kick-off another exciting season of women's tackle football on April 20, 2002 at 7:05 PM.
Primed and ready to defend last year's title, the Belles have been practicing hard and are determined to live up to the title of champion that they proudly wear. On April 20, the Belles will open their season with a Media Game of flag football against the women of Y100, an alternative rock radio station in Philadelphia. This friendly game will feature women from Y100 who will test their mettle against the strength, speed and skill of the Liberty Belles players.
The following Saturday, April 27, 2002 the Belles will pull no punches as they kick off the season and defend their national title. The Liberty Belles will enter its second year under the vision of team owner, Marie Olsen. Her commitment to women's athletics has been a dream come true for area women who have grown up wanting to play football like the boys. The players have the support of family and friends and a staff of volunteers who work hard to make the team a success.
The Philadelphia Liberty Belles are one of 10 charter teams of the National Women's Football League (www.NWFLcentral.com) that burst onto the scene in 2001. Under the guidance of team owner and General manager Marie Olsen and the direction of head coach Russ Carfagno the Philadelphia Liberty Belles played an 8-1 season culminating in winning the Pat Windham-Harvey Bowl to become League Champs.
The Liberty Belles play home games at Garthwaite field in Conshohocken, PA. in front of crowds of over 2500 fans. Games are held Saturday evenings at 7:05 PM.
