California Cougars News Release
Stockton, CA - Nov. 25, 2007 - Aaron Susi hurt his former team for two goals and an assist as his new squad, the Philadelphia KiXX, improves to 2-4 after a 14-6 win over the California Cougars (2-3) at the Stockton Arena.
It took 11:41 for either team to finally get something going on the offensive side of the ball. Susi struck first for Philadelphia after he poked a low shot below the outstretched reach of Cougar goalkeeper Sanaldo. 12 year MISL vet, and goalkeeper, Peter Pappas picked up the assist. The KiXX led it 2-0 through the first quarter and into the second until Susi struck again, but this time he assisted Angel Rivillo with a two point goal. That goal came early in the second (4:53 into the quarter) and it gave Philadelphia the 4-0 lead, which they kept through the first half of play.
California out shot Philadelphia 13-7 in the first half. Despite taking more shots on goal the Cougars were shutout through a half for the first time since 3/18/07. The Cougars lost that game, 19-13 in Chicago against the Storm
It seemed that the Cougars' misfortunes would continue into the second half when Susi scored again just 1:11 into the third. This time it was Pat Morris who assisted the score. But, Semir Mesanovic would help to give the Cougars hope by scoring from directly outside the penalty area putting the Cougars on the board for the first time in the contest. It took 46:13 for California to score against Philadelphia. Chris Handsor assisted Mesanovic on the goal.
Enrique "Qeeks" Tovar made it two straight scores for the Cougars as he was able to take Pappas top shelf in a chaotic score happening just a few feet in front of the KiXX goal. Tovar cut the Philadelphia lead down to 6-4; it came off the assist by Nelson Santana and 7:24 into the third. But, Philadelphia answered the Cougars two scores with a Ptah Myers goal assisted by Sandre Naumoski. That score came 2:23 into the fourth, and it extended the lead to 8-4. The Cougars kept hope alive with Kupono Low scoring for the second time this season just seven seconds after Myers's goal. The lead was then cut to 8-6 just 2:30 into the fourth.
The Cougars put the pressure on late in the fourth by putting in Santana as the sixth attacker. But, Philadelphia was able to score twice against Santana and Cougars' defense. California allowed three-point goals to Myers and second year midfielder Tony Donatelli.
Both teams matched each other with 14 shots on goal in the second half. The Cougars out shot the KiXX 27-21 in the game, but Philadelphia held on to win 14-6.
The Cougars play the KiXX again this upcoming Friday, November 30 in Philadelphia. California then takes on the undefeated Baltimore Blast the very next day in Baltimore.
