
Philadelphia Freedoms Earn Huge Win over Undefeated Austin Aces

The Philadelphia Freedoms earned a huge win over the undefeated Austin Aces at the Pavilion at Villanova University on Thursday night.
To begin the night, Robby Ginepri started the set serving against Teymur Gabashvili in men's singles. Ginepri defeated Gabashvili, who is No.1 in the league for men's singles. The set ended in a 5-2 lead for Philadelphia.
Next Taylor Townsend took the court for women's singles against Nicole Gibbs.
Townsend entered the set focused and delivered with her powerful overhand serves. During the middle of the set Townsend started struggling to keep the lead but ultimately came out on top of 5-3 win.
For men's doubles, Marcelo Melo and Robby Ginepri teamed up as the two took on Teymur Gabashvili and Jarmere Jenkins. The duo kept the Freedoms' winning streak alive by taking the set 5-3.
As the second half began, the Freedoms held a solid lead of 15-8.
For women's doubles, powerhouse Taylor Townsend and Abigail Spears served against Nicole Gibbs and Alla Kudryavtseva. Philadelphia dominated the set winning 5-1.
Townsend remained on the court as teammate Melo joined for mixed doubles against Alla Kudryavtseva and Jarmere Jenkins. The Freedoms fell short for the set and lost 5-1, leading the match into extended play.
Freedoms regained momentum and ended extended play after just one game taking the match 22-14.
Up next, Philadelphia will be hitting the road to Springfield to face the Lasers. Currently the Freedoms and Lasers are tied 1-1 in the series as the two teams meet for the last time of the regular season Friday night.
