
Philadelphia Freedoms Defeat New York Sportimes

(VILLANOVA, Pa.) - The Philadelphia Freedoms defeated the New York Sportimes 21-16 for their first home victory of the 2013 season.
Men's singles kicked off the evening, with Jesse Witten of the New York Sportimes winning over the Philadelphia Freedoms' Sam Groth in a close set, 5-3. The next set featured the Freedoms' Liezel Huber and Victoria Duval taking on Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke of the Sportimes. The Sportimes also took this women's doubles set, 5-3.
The Freedoms proved to be fierce competitors as they went on to win the final three sets of the match. Sam Groth and Liezel Huber took over in mixed doubles, defeating the Sportimes' Kveta Peschke and Robert Kendrick, 5-2. In women's singles, the Freedoms' Victoria Duval dominated the Sportimes' Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 5-1. The match concluded with men's doubles in the fifth set, as the Freedoms' Sam Groth and Jordan Kerr defeated the Sportimes' Jesse Witten and Robert Kendrick, 5-3.
The Freedoms' next match is Friday, July 19 against the Orange County Breakers at the Pavilion at Villanova University.
