
Philadelphia Freedoms Champion First Victory of the 2012 Season

Villanova, PA (July 11, 2012) - The Philadelphia Freedoms brought victory to their home court at the Villanova Pavilion in their first winning match of the season versus the Boston Lobsters, final score 24-17. The win also marks the first victory for head coach Josh Cohen since taking the helm at the beginning of the season.
The evening was marked by exciting tie breaking games in four of the five sets, bringing an energetic crowd of 1,109 Freedoms fans to its feet.
Freedoms' Luka Gregor championed the first set of the evening, beating Lobsters player Jan Michael Gambill, 5-4. Kristyna Pliskova scored the Freedoms' second straight winning set of the night against Lobsters' Irina Falconi, 5-4. Freedoms' Luka Gregor and Jordon Kerr brought fire to the court during the men's doubles set, yet lost in a tie breaker to the Lobsters' Jan Michael Gambill and Eric Butorac, 5-4.
The Freedoms regained their winning streak during the mixed doubles set as Karolina Pliskova and Jordan Kerr clinched an electric victory against the Lobsters' Irina Falconi and Eric Butorac, 5-4. Karolina and Kristyna Pliskova delivered the final blow to the Lobsters during women's doubles beating Irina Falconi and Carly Gullickson Eagle, 5-4.
The Freedoms next match is Saturday, July 14, 2012 against the Springfield Lasers at home. The Freedoms continue their 2012 home season throughout July with a roster of world-class tennis pros, including Bob and Mike Bryan for the Kansas Explorers (July 16), John McEnroe and Martina Hingis for the New York Sportimes (July 20), and Mark Philippoussis for the Freedoms (July 25), plus a special appearance by tennis legend Chris Evert (July 19). The Philadelphia Freedoms are presented by Beneficial Bank and hosted by Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
