Philadelphia cuts roster to 18; Scrimmage vs. Power moved to Sunday

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 1, 2002) - The Philadelphia Charge released midfielders Laurie Schwoy and Michelle Demko, defender Andrea Alfiler and goalkeeper Katie Carson on Monday, cutting the team's active roster to 18 players. Philadelphia had until today to narrow its roster to 18 in preparation of the league's waiver draft that will be held on April 2.

Schwoy and Demko both played for the Charge in 2001. Schwoy, a University of North Carolina product, ended last season with four goals and four assists in 17 games, while Demko, from the University of Maryland, finished 2001 with two goals and one assist in 16 games.

Alfiler was the club's second second-round draft pick in the 2002 WUSA draft that was held in February. The Azuza Pacific product was the 16th overall pick. Carson was also a 2002 draft pick of the Charge, getting selected in the third round out of Clemson University.

The Charge have also announced a schedule change for the pre-season finale against the New York Power. The game has been moved from Saturday, April 6 to Sunday, April 7. The contest will remain a 6 p.m. (ET) start and take place at Indian Hills High School in Northern New Jersey.

The Charge kick off the 2002 WUSA season Saturday, April 13 in Atlanta against the Beat at 7 p.m. The club then travels to New York on Saturday, April 27 to face the Power at 7:00 p.m. before making its home debut on Saturday, May 4 against the Boston Breakers starting at 7 p.m. For season ticket information call 215-467-GOAL or log on to www.philadelphiacharge.com.
