Phil Esposito Back to Coach the Danbury Whalers

The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce that East Haven, Connecticut native Phil Esposito will return to the organization for the third consecutive season as the team's Head Coach / Director of Hockey Operations. Esposito led the Whalers to the Commissioner's Cup Championship last season in a 3 game sweep of the Dayton Demonz.
In two years at the helm for Danbury, Espo has compiled a 52-6-7-37 record for a .568 winning percentage. Under Esposito the Danbury Whalers own a 10-4 playoff record including 6-0 last season and a 6-2 playoff mark at the Danbury Ice Arena, including the last 4 in a row.
During his tenure in Danbury, Esposito has had over 50 Danbury Whalers player promotions to AAA and AA.
Phil Esposito commented, "These past seasons in Danbury have been amazing. I have always said to our fans that I will never stop working until we have a Championship for the City of Danbury. Now that we have the Cup, we are never going to let it go. That trophy is home and it's not leaving without a fight."
Espo also added, "I can't thank the players enough who put it all on the line every night. I love our fans and how they rally behind us and give us such an edge. There are so many support people on staff who make the engine go, without them, I couldn't do what I do."
Also from Phil, "I also want to thank the Ownership of the Danbury Whalers for always believing in me and trusting my judgment. Thank you Alan, Herm, Mr. Sorcher, Jarrod, Sam, Gregg, and Mike for all you guys do to give me the tools to put a winning team in the Danbury Ice Arena."
Before joining the Danbury Whalers as an Assistant Coach in 2010-11, Esposito served as head coach for the Hudson Valley Bears (2008-09) and Connecticut C-Dogs of the NEPHL (2009-10). Phil also was a player-assistant coach for the New England Stars in the 2007-08 season.
Phil's playing career spanned from 89 - 09, and has taken him to the United States Military Academy (Army - West Point), the ECHL, SHL, UHL, and the EPHL.
