
Phantoms Win at NAHL Showcase

Blaine, Minnesota (Wednesday, October 20, 2004) -- Today the Youngstown Phantoms Junior-A hockey club registered a 4-0 triumph over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Minneapolis. The Phantoms' power play unit produced three of the four goals and goaltender Jerry Kuhn stopped 22 shots in posting his first shutout of the season. It was the third straight victory for Youngstown
(4-3-0), which will play each of the next three days as the 30-team tourney -- that also includes Eastern Junior Hockey League clubs -- continues.
The Phantoms' schedule for the remainder of the tournament is:
Thurs., Oct. 21 Youngstown vs. Bay State Breakers (EJHL) 8:00 p.m.
Fri., Oct. 22 Youngstown vs. Walpole Junior Stars (EJHL) 1:30 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 23 Youngstown vs. Texarkana Bandits (NAHL) 12 Noon
Today Anthony Canzoneri got Youngstown on the scoreboard with a goal at the 11:42-mark of the opening period. Then in the second period, the Phantoms beat Ice Dogs' goaltender Jerad Kaufmann twice within 25 seconds with Aaron Rhyner and Mike Maltese finding the net at 10:34 and 10:59 respectively. The fourth Youngstown goal was scored by Derek Roehl at the 16:17-mark of the final period. The tally by Maltese was the only even-strength goal of the day.
Miscellaneous Notes: Even though the tournament includes teams from the NAHL and the EJHL, all games for every team will count in their respective league's standings...Youngstown has won four of five games since opening the 2004-2005 campaign with a pair of losses against the USA 18-and-Under National Team up in Ann Arbor, Michigan...Jerry Kuhn has been in goal for all four Youngstown victories this season...Aaron Rhyner leads the Phantoms with seven goals and has scored at least one goal in six of the team's seven games...Youngstown was 3-for-10 with the man-advantage today...The times listed above for the Phantoms' remaining games are Central times...Youngstown has outscored the opposition, 15-2, during its current three-game winning streak.
