Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - While the majority of attention traditionally goes to the candidates for President at this point in the election season, the Philadelphia Phantoms thought it fitting to honor two Vice-Presidential candidates who have ties to the region and the game of hockey. On Saturday, October 18, the Phantoms will be holding V.P. Night when they host the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The night centers around the two Vice-Presidential candidates, Delaware senator Joe Biden and Alaska governor Sarah Palin, now a well-known "hockey mom." The evening's attractions start at the box office, where the Phantoms will grant half-price admission to all Delaware and Alaska residents, and to all moms who bring a child or children to the game. As an added bonus, the Phantoms will grant free admission to any fans named Piper, Willow, Bristol, Track, Trig, Hunter, Beau or Ashley.
Inside the Spectrum, the concourse will be decorated in a patriotic, political theme. A mudslinging booth will be set up, with impersonators of Biden and Palin on hand along with a Binghamton Senators fan. Fans will be able to get on soapboxes and express their views on various topics. The local offices of the Republican and Democratic Parties have been invited to set up tables on the concourse.
Also on the concourse will be a cosmetics station where fans can sample the latest in lipstick fashion.
The game will begin with a ceremonial puck drop between the alternate captains of the Phantoms and Senators. During the game, the Phantoms will highlight the roles of Phantoms assistant coaches Kjell Samuelsson and Neil Little and Senators assistant coach Mike Busniuk. The three stars of the game will be slightly altered - the game's best player will be named the second star, and the player who fits in the normal slot of the second star will be named the First Dude.
The night will feature the latest in an ongoing line of limited edition Phantoms team-autographed household items. A lucky fan will win a team-autographed bench vise courtesy of The Home Depot, an item sure to dress up any fan's workshop or garage.
Some other fans will receive the following great prizes, all to be awarded during the second period:
- A one-way ticket to Washington, DC on Amtrak's Northeast Regional Line
- Alaskan King Crab dinner for two at Shuckers Pier 13 in Dover, Delaware
- DVD Copies of The Deadliest Catch and Miami Vice
- A stuffed pit bull, adorned with lipstick
Over the course of the game, the Phantoms Phan Patrol will conduct unofficial voting for Vice President in the stands. Fans can vote for Biden, Palin or a write-in candidate of their choice.
The Phantoms will begin the 2008-09 American Hockey League season, their final regular season at the Wachovia Spectrum, on Friday, Oct. 10 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Comcast-Spectacor recently announced that the Wachovia Spectrum will close after the Phantoms conclude their 2008-09 season. The Spectrum opened on September 30, 1967 with the Quaker City Jazz Festival. After nearly 30 seasons of Philadelphia Flyers hockey and Philadelphia 76ers basketball, the Spectrum gave way to the Wachovia Center in 1996.
The best way for fans to secure a ticket for the final game on April 12, 2009 is to purchase either a game plan package or season tickets. Packages are available now in convenient blocks of 6, 10, 16, 20 and 40 games. Receiving an impressive list of exclusive benefits, discount prices and the same seat for each game begins at just $60!
