Phantoms Sign Former College All American and NFL Star

Florence Phantoms Vice President of Operations Bennie King is proud to announce the signing of former College All American and NFL player Omar Jacobs.Jacobs (6'4, 232) played collegiately at Bowling Green University where he was considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. During Jacobs sophomore year he put together one of college footballs finest seasons at the quarterback position. In 2004 Omar passed for a MAC record 41 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions.This accomplishment is the best ever Touchdown to Interception ratio in college football history. During the same season Jacobs completed a record 224 passes without an interception.Jacobs finished the season being named MAC Offensive Player of the Year and MVP of the GMAC Bowl after a 365 yard 5 touchdown performance verse Memphis.

In 2005 Omar is best remembered for opening the season throwing for 458 yards and 5 Touchdowns in a nationally televised match up verse Wisconsin. During the season Omar was a finalist for the Davey O' Brien Award which is awarded to the nation's best quarterback as well as nominee for the Heisman Trophy awarded annually to the best player in college football.At the conclusion of his junior year Omar declared for the NFL Draft and was selected in the 5th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Omar has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs."I am absolutely thrilled to make this announcement what a player" said vp of operations Bennie King."Omar is a player who has all the tools to be a star in the indoor game."Training Camp will be a real treat I am very excited too see our team come together."This young man is an exceptional talent that has performed at the highest levels we are fortunate that he will display his talents here in Florence and the AIFA".
