PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms today have launched a new program on their website, phantomshockey.com, aimed at getting fans acquainted with the native languages of Phantoms players and staff. Language Lessons is a seven-part, seven-language series featuring the audio of words and phrases spoken by those who play and work for the Phantoms.

The first featured language is Latvian, the native tongue of Phantoms defenseman Oskars Bartulis. Like many of the linguists that will follow, Bartulis voiced a selection of words and phrases associated with hockey, culture and everyday life.

Along with Bartulis, players Stefan Ruzicka (Slovakian), Denis Gauthier (French) and Andreas Nodl (German) also provided vocal translations. Phantoms associate coach Kjell Samuelsson supplied Swedish translations, while Phantoms account executive Ilkka Kortesluoma voiced his native Finnish language. The Russian vernacular was handled by Phantoms power skating coach Slava Kouznetsov.

Some sample words include "ice" and "referee", while phrases range from "what time is it?" to the proper way to order a cheese steak here in Philadelphia.

Season tickets and game plans are now available for the 2008-09 season. Fans can lock in the same great seat at a discount for 10, 20 or 40 Phantoms home games this season while receiving a whole list of great exclusive benefits. For more information or to make a deposit, call the Phantoms at 215-465-4522 during normal business hours. More information is also available at the Phantoms website, www.phantomshockey.com.
