The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have announced that they have agreed to terms with LW Austin Fyten to a two-way AHL contract for the 2014-15 season.
Austin Fyten, 23 (5/3/1991), is a 6'2", 200 lb. skater with a left-handed shot from Sundre, Alberta. Fyten is entering his third season of professional hockey.
Last year, he played mostly with the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL scoring seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in a total of 47 games played. He also suited up in 15 games for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL where he scored 9-6-15.
During his rookie season in 2012-13, Fyten scored 14-27-41 in 46 games for Idaho while also playing in 11 games for the Texas Stars of the AHL where he scored 0-2-2. In January 2013, he represented Idaho at the ECHL All-Star Game. Idaho also made a deep run in the postseason that spring and Fyten thrived producing 5-6-11 through their 17 playoff games.
In total, Fyten has played in 58 games in the AHL with Texas and Oklahoma City scoring 7-15-22 and also has 61 regular-season games for Idaho in the ECHL across two seasons scoring 21-40-61.
Fyten missed almost all of the 2011-12 season due to injury. He only appeared in six playoff games for the Vancouver Giants scoring 2-3-5. He played most of his Major Juniors career with the Lethbridge (Alta.) Hurricanes scoring 24-30-54 in 52 games in his final season with Lethbridge in 2010-11. For his Major Juniors career with Lethbridge, Fyten played in 203 games where he scored 55-67-122.
Eight players are under AHL contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for the 2014-15 season including Steven Delisle (D), Brett Flemming (D), Austin Fyten (F), Kevin Goumas (F), Matt Hatch (F), Connor Knapp (G), Martin Ouelette (G) and Darroll Powe (F). The majority of players assigned to the roster of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the 2014-15 season will be on NHL contracts with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tickets for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms preseason home games are on sale now by calling (610) 347-TIXX (8499) or by logging on to pplcenter.com. The Phantoms will take on the Hershey Bears on Wednesday, October 1 and will battle the Albany Devils on Saturday, October 4. Fans may choose upper-bowl seating for $12 or lower-bowl seating for $15.
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have announced that their regular season home opener at the PPL Center is scheduled for Friday, October 17. The full regular-season schedule is expected to be announced by the American Hockey League in the near future.
