Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Urbandale (IA) USA Hockey announced the first 15 players for the team that will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championships and among those picked is former Des Moines Buccaneers' defenseman Jeff Petry. This is the second consecutive season that Petry has been selected for the team.

The tournament is scheduled for May 4-19 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

A native of Ann Arbor, MI, Petry played for the Buccaneers from 2005-2007 and then went onto play three years in his home state for the Michigan State Spartans. Following his junior season, in which he served as the Spartans' captain, Petry turned pro with the Edmonton Oilers' organization that had drafted him 45th overall in 2006.

In 2010-2011, Petry split time between the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League before sticking full-time with the Oilers beginning in 2011-2012. Entering this weekend, Petry has played in 154 career NHL games including 46 this season. He has 12 points with three goals and nine assists for an Oilers team that will not be participating in the playoffs.

Last spring, Petry played in eight games for Team USA at the World Championships, picking up 5pts (2g, 3a).

The Des Moines Buccaneers are preparing for their 34th consecutive season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
