Peterson takes player of the week honors

Alpena MI: The North American Hockey League announced today that Alpena IceDiggers forward Erik Peterson has been named North division player of the week.

The Alpena native had two goals and three assists last week to help the IceDiggers (26-10-2) finish the week a perfect 3-0. "Erik has been one of our more consistent players the last two months and deserves to be honored this week after putting together one of his best all around weekends since he has been with the club." said coach Kenny Miller

On Wednesday, the 18-year-old recorded an assist in Alpena's 6-2 win over the Marquette Rangers (14-20-3), the center also tallied a power-play marker and an assist in a 5-4 win over Mahoning Valley (29-10-1) on Saturday and followed that up with a shorthanded goal and an assist in another 5-4 IceDiggers triumph over the Phantoms on Sunday.

Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI), Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) and Todd Rudasill (Powell OH)were also nominated for the honors this week.

After winning all three games this past week Peterson and his teammates will enjoy a weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday January 24th versus the Traverse City Northstars (13-21-5) at Northern Lights Arena. The puck will drop at 7:00PM.
