Wildcats Earn Three Points Against Fairbanks

The Wildcats played the first three games of their three week away stint this weekend against the Fairbanks Icedogs. The Cats were able to walk away with one victory in the three games series. The Cats lost on Friday with a high scoring game ending at the mark of 8-4. Saturday night the Cats bounced back and won with a 4-2 victory over the Icedogs. In the final game of the series on Sunday the Cats came up short losing in a shootout with a 4-3 final. The Wildcats currently stand in fifth place in the NAHL South Division.

The Wildcats weren't able to defeat the Icedogs on Friday night falling short at a score of 8-4. The Cats fought hard, however, attempting 45 shots on goal. The first period was scoreless, but the game heated up in the second period. The Icedogs connected on five goals in the second period and the Cats were able to connect on one goal. The lone goal in the second period was a shorthanded goal scored by Skylur Jameson and assisted by Adam Cardwell with roughly two minutes left in the frame. The third period was full of excitement as well. The Wildcats and Icedogs each put up three goals during the period. The first goal by the Cats was scored by Adam Cardwell at the 10:04 mark who was assisted by Ville Aman and Sean Nealon. The next Cats goal came at the 13:51 mark of the third period with Sean Nealon capitalizing on a goal which was assisted by Ville Aman and Brett Morrell. The Cats weren't finished yet as Kyle Matson sent the final goal of the game through the pipes at the 19:19 mark as the game winded to a close.

The Wildcats took to the ice again on Saturday night against the Icedogs and walked away with a 4-2 victory. This was another high output game with each team taking over 40 shots on goal. Adam Krefski got the night started off right for the Wildcats with a powerplay goal assisted by Joel Sauer at the 5:59 mark. The Icedogs would slide two goals past the Cats before Sean Nealon capitalized on a goal at the 17:50 mark of the first period to tie the game up at 2-2. The second period remained scoreless by both teams leaving the game knotted up going into the final frame. Sean Nealon connected on an unassisted goal at the 6:37 mark to put the Cats on top of the Icedogs. Ville Aman went on to add one more goal before the game ended at a final of 4-2 giving the Cats a victory to tie the series up at one game a piece.

The final game of the series took place on Sunday night and it didn't disappoint. The Cats lost a close one at a final of 4-3 losing in a shootout. The Cats were unable to get on the board in the first period and went into the second period trailing the Icedogs at a score of 1-0. The Cats struck first in the second frame with Zach Josepher connecting on a goal at the 8:10 mark. He was assisted on the play by Joel Sauer and Adam Krefski. The Icedogs were able to put up two more goals and after two periods had been played the Cats were down 3-1. The Wildcats came out fighting in the third period, however, with their first goal being scored by Chris Nutini and assisted by Adam Cardwell before a minute had even passed in the period. Brett Morrell connected on the next goal at the 17:14 mark which was also assisted by Adam Cardwell. The game was tied up at 3-3 and remained that way throughout the remainder of the third period and overtime. The game went on to a shootout where the Icedogs walked away with a 4-3 win.

The Wildcats will be on the road again this weekend as they face the Alaska Avalanche on Thursday and Saturday.
