Peters, Drillers Stage Big Rally to Top Travs

The Tulsa Drillers rallied from a five-run deficit Sunday night with nine straight runs over the final four innings to defeat Arkansas 10-6 at ONEOK Field. The victory gave the Drillers three wins in the four-game set with the Travelers and padded their first-place lead in the Texas League's North Division to five games.
D.J. Peters led the comeback, finishing with 4 hits in the game and just a triple shy of the cycle. Cael Brockmeyer added 3 hits as the duo accounted for over half of Tulsa's 13 hits.
The Drillers opened the scoring with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning. After Arkansas starting pitcher Spencer Herrmann set down the first two batters, Jacob Scavuzzo doubled. Brockmeyer followed with the first of his three singles to give Tulsa the early 1-0 lead.
A pair of unearned runs in the top of the second allowed the Travelers to take the lead.
They struck again in the third when Beau Amaral singled and eventually scored to up the margin to 3-1.
The teams traded three-run homers in the fifth. Arkansas got a three-run shot from Chris Mariscal to increase its lead to five runs.
The Drillers answered in the bottom half of the fifth to begin their comeback. Scavuzzo reached on an error and Brockmeyer singled in front Peters' 22nd home run of the season to pull Tulsa to within 6-4.
Tulsa completed its comeback with a six-run seventh inning. With one out, four straight singles from Brockmeyer, Peters, Keibert Ruiz and Zach Reks produced two runs and evened the score at 6-6. After Tyler Goeddel flied out, Errol Robinson delivered a big, two-out hit with a sharp grounder into right field, allowing Ruiz to race home from second to give Tulsa the lead.
The inning continued and the Drillers padded their lead when Arkansas reliever Wyatt Mills hit Drew Jackson and Scavuzzo with consecutive pitches with the bases loaded to force home two more runs.
A wild pitch from Darin Gillies gave the Drillers another run, upping their lead to 10-4.
The big comeback allowed Yadier Alvarez to pick up his first win of the season. Alvarez worked 3 1/3 relief innings, surrendering three runs on two hits and five walks.
Tulsa starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin entered the game with four wins in his first four starts for the Drillers, but he received a no-decision in Sunday's outing. Gonsolin worked four innings and surrendered three runs on five hits, but only one of the runs was earned.
WHAT YOU MISSED
*Peters is now leading the Texas League in home runs, breaking a three-way tie at the top with his fifth-inning blast.
*For the second time in three days, the Drillers set a season high in double plays turned. On Friday, they turned four double plays, but topped that mark with five in Sunday's game. In the last 3 games, the Tulsa defense has registered 12 double plays.
*Scavuzzo extended his current hitting streak to seven straight games with his first-inning double. The Drillers outfielder has now hit safely in 34 of his last 37 games.
UP NEXT
Monday will be a travel day for the Drillers as they head to Corpus Christi for a three-game series with the Hooks. The series will begin Tuesday night with first pitch for the opener scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Whataburger Field. The pitching matchup for the opener is scheduled to be:
