CHARLOTTE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Matt Whitehead of the Pensacola Ice Flyers is the SBK Player of the Week for December 20-26.
The first two-time winner of the award this season, Whitehead scored four goals and added an assist as the Ice Flyers split a pair of games last week.
On Wednesday, the Newmarket, Ontario native recorded his third hat trick of the season in a 5-2 win over Louisiana, scoring at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded. Whitehead came back on Sunday with a goal and an assist in a 7-4 loss to Pensacola.
The 26-year-old Whitehead, who played four years of college hockey at SUNY-Oswego, is currently second in the league in goals (20), power-play goals (6) and points (37) and third in game-winning goals with three.
