Penn FC News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Penn FC's unbeaten streak ended at six matches as the Richmond Kickers earned a 2-1 win at FNB Field Monday night.
In its second match in four days, Rush Soccer's First Team struggled to maintain the same success against Richmond that it had against Bethlehem Steel FC this past Friday.
The first half of the match against Richmond left much to be desired with the sides mustering only a few chances. However, the Kickers broke through in the 32nd minute with a set piece. A Penn FC foul 30 yards from the goal set up a dangerous free kick position. Richmond's Scott Thomsen rifled the free kick on frame, and the left-footed shot found the top corner of the net.
Despite Penn FC ramping up its attack in the second half in search of the equalizer, Richmond doubled its lead in the 74th minute against the run of play. Richmond pressed the Penn FC backline and won the ball in Penn FC's defensive half. Richmond's Brian Shriver hit a quick cross to the back post, meeting Luiz Fernando's for his fifth of the season.
Penn FC responded almost immediately in search of a late comeback.
Freddie Opoku combined with Issac Osae to get behind the Richmond backline. Osae's shot was saved, but Lucky Mkosana was the first to the rebound. Before having the chance to take a shot, the forward was fouled in the box for a penalty kick. The Zimbabwean slotted home from the spot, netting his seventh goal in five games.
Despite outshooting Richmond 22-5 and earning 12 corner kicks while conceding zero, Penn FC could not find the equalizer, and the season series knotted up with both sides earning a win in league play. Penn FC will have the opportunity to earn revenge in the rubber match at Richmond Saturday, August 18.
Penn FC is back on the road Saturday, July 14 at Ottawa Fury at TD Place Stadium. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Fans can stream the game on ESPN+.
