Penguins sign Pascal Morencey and Tim Verbeek

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed right wings Pascal Morency and Tim Verbeek, it was announced by team CEO Jeff Barrett. In accordance with club policy, terms of the deals were not released.

Morency, 23, appeared in two games with the Penguins last season, going scoreless with four penalty minutes before being assigned to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). He ranked 12th on the Nailers with 17 points (8-9), and led the club with 252 penalty minutes in 51 games.

The 5-10, 196 pound native of Montreal broke into the pro ranks with Flint of the United Hockey League in 2003-04, recording 14 points (8-6) and a team-high 248 penalty minutes.

Morency played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 75 points (28-47) and 724 penalty minutes while splitting time between Chicoutimi, Cape Breton, Hull and Rouyn-Noranda. His 596 penalty minutes with Cape Breton in 2001-02 were first in the league.

Verbeek, 26, appeared in 21 games with the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) last season, posting nine goals and 14 points. The younger brother of former National Hockey League star Pat Verbeek has tallied 141 points (66-75) in 226 ECHL games with Toledo, Roanoke and Idaho during the past five seasons. His 220 penalty minutes with Toledo in 2000-01 were second on the team, while his 217 with the Storm in 2002-03 placed third on the squad.

The 6-0, 195 pound native of Sarnia, Ontario has also recorded two points (1-1) and 36 penalty minutes in 14 AHL games with Cincinnati and Utah during that time.
