Penguins Release New Uniforms for 2016-17 Season Wilkes-Barre/Scranton adopts black and gold palette inspired by NHL affiliate
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins unveiled new dark and light game jerseys on Monday. These jerseys will serve as the primary home and road sweaters for the team starting this season.
The sweaters mirror the recently unveiled Pittsburgh Penguins home and road jerseys, which are based on the uniforms worn by the NHL club during the 1991 and 1992 Stanley Cup championship seasons. The jerseys feature a white, black and 'Pittsburgh Gold' color scheme.
Unique to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jerseys will be the team's familiar muscular skating penguin, along with the red Wilkes-Barre/Scranton circle logo featured on the shoulders of both jerseys.
Fans at the Mohegan Sun Arena this season will be able to see both sets of jersey on the ice, thanks to a rule chance by the American hockey League. Prior to the Christmas break, teams across the league will wear light-colored jerseys on home ice. After the winter break, teams will transition to wearing dark jerseys on home ice.
Replica versions of the jerseys will be available to purchase at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins team store, located inside the Toyota Sportsplex (40 Coal Street, Wilkes-Barre) starting in late September. Jerseys will also be available via the Penguins online store (http://wbs-penguins-teamstore.myshopify.com/).
