Penguins Reassign Forward Brendan Walsh to Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have reassigned forward Brendan Walsh to their East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, it was announced today by Head Coach Glenn Patrick.

Walsh, 27, has four points (2+2) and 184 penalty minutes in 29 games this season with the Penguins.

The 5'9" and 190-pound native of Dorchester, MA. was recalled from Wheeling on January 16. In 28 games this season with the Nailers, he has 21 points (7+14) and 168 penalty minutes.

Walsh was signed by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as a free agent on August 29, 2001.

He is expected to be in the lineup today when the Nailers (36-32-3; 75 points) visit the Cincinnati Cyclones (35-30-6; 76 points) at 3:00 p.m. at the Firstar Center in Cincinnati, Ohio in the final game of the regular season for both clubs.

The winner of today's game will clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northwest Division and will advance to play either the Dayton Bombers or the Peoria Rivermen in the first round of the 2002 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Walsh split the 2000-2001 season with Cleveland (IHL) and Jackson (ECHL). He played in 10 games with the Lumberjacks, recording two points (1+1) and 45 penalty minutes. During the playoffs, he was scoreless with 11 penalty minutes in four games. In 25 games with the Bandits, he totaled nine points (3+6) and 179 penalty minutes.

Walsh was signed by the Minnesota Wild as a free agent on May 16, 2000.

With today's roster move, the Penguins have 22 players on their roster – 12 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.

The Penguins (20-42-12-3, 55 points; fourth-place, South Division) travel to Philadelphia (31-26-14-5, 81 points; third-place, South Division) on Wednesday to play the Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Spectrum.
