Port Huron Flags News Release
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - The Flags battled hard against low attendance numbers (1,339 people) and an aggressive Elmira team, but were unable to seal the deal and grab the victory.
The first period was a physical match, with four Flags and seven Jackals penalties. Elmira's Chris Mann was given a five minute major for fighting Greg Bonello at 7:29. During the power play, Port Huron drew first blood at 11:17 when Left Wing Colt King sent the puck into the net on a wrist shot, with assists from Defenseman Jeff Cameron and Center Greg Bullock. Shortly after, Elmira regained full strength, but that would not stop Center Jeremy Tucker from scoring at 12:46, on an assist from King. The Flags doubled Elmira's nine shots on goal with 18 in the firs period.
Elmira evened the score in the second period, capitalizing on B.J. Adams' tripping penalty at 10:50. Left Wing Scott Wray sent the puck into the net at 11:17, on assists from Defensemen Dale Luput and Scott Drevitch. Then, with 20 seconds left in the period, Mann scored, unassisted, while the Jackals were shorthanded. Elmira recorded 10 shots on goal to Port Huron's 19.
Defenseman Ryan Gillis and Tucker were called for hooking at 4:13 and 5:34, respectively. Elmira's Luput took capitalized on the 5-3 advantage, scoring at 5:38, on assists from Drevitch and Right Wing Yevgeny Lazarev. A slashing penalty, at 17:45, on Left Wing J.F. Soucy gave the Flags the opportunity to tie but Lazarev's open net goal in the final seconds of the game stopped Port Huron short. Nine shots on goal were recorded for Elmira, and 10 for Port Huron.
AT&T's First, Second and Third Stars of the Game were awarded to Luput, King and Elmira goaltender Kris Tebbs, respectively. The Flags play the Jackals for the final installment of the three game series on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
