PEI Rocket Select Tomas Pavelka 26th Overall in CHL Import Draft The newest member of the PEI Rocket is 17 year old defenseman, Tomas Pavelka, from the Czech Republic the Rocket selected Pavelka with their 26th pick in the 1st round of today's CHL Euro Draft. Tomas Pavelka - Pavelka was one of the biggest surprises during the Tournament. He isn't the most noticeable player on the ice, until he is. Pavelka works hard and is hard on the puck or hard on the player who has the puck and is near him. He makes solid contact along the boards and in open ice, shows above average anticipation away from the puck and was generally matched up against the most difficult players to contain from other countries. His battles with Tyler Biggs during the Czech's strong showing against the Americans were epic. Pavelka is a very likeable player, because he will do all the little things required but that most players aren't willing to do. He will block shots, he will push and shove, he battles until he wins and he will take a hit to make a play. Pavelka is good with the puck, effective and makes good quick decisions when he is around the puck. He is confident and reliable and uses the boards well to spin off and elude pressure or move the puck ahead or out of dangerous areas. Pavelka is the kind of unsung hero every team loves to have in their stable. "I am very happy with our draft selection. He is an offensive minded defenseman who plays a solid all around game. Tomas is also an excellent skater," said President and Governor of the PEI Rocket, Serge Savard Jr. " Pavelka has been on our radar for some time and we were fortunate that he was still available when we made our selection" added Savard. The PEI Rocket will pick again 35th overall in the 1st round.
