P.E.I. Rocket News Release
The PEI Rocket announced today that they have acquired goaltender Marco Cousineau from the Drummondville Voltigeurs in exchange for their first round pick in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft. "It was an easy decision for us", said President & Governor, Serge Savard Jr. "We had an opportunity to add one of the top goaltenders in the League and we jumped at the opportunity. He will be a great addition to our team for the year".
One of the top goaltenders in the QMJHL last season, Cousineau was a key contributor in Drummondville`s President`s Cup Championship and a very strong showing in the Mastercard Memorial Cup. During the regular season, Cousineau split the season between Baie-Comeau and Drummondville. After being acquired by the Voltigeurs at the Christmas deadline, Cousineau had a record of 12-3-1 with a 2.42 goals against average and .904 save percentage.
At the 2009 Mastercard Memorial Cup, Marco was named the recipient of the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding goaltender, leading the tournament with a save percentage of .911 and a goals-against-average of 2.94 in four games played. He was spectacular in the semi-final game making 44 saves as first star of the game despite the 3-2 loss to the eventual champion, Windsor Spitfires. Not surprisingly, Cousineau was also named to the first all star team at the Memorial Cup.
Born in St. Lazare, Qc, the 6`0`, 195 lb Cousineau was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round (83rd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Cousineau was just recently returned to Junior from the Ducks training camp and he is expected to join the Rocket immediately.
