Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced today that shortstop Jay Pecci has been signed for the 2007 season. Pecci who has played in more games with the RailCats than any other player in franchise history, will return for his third season with the club. The popular California native has solidified the RailCats infield at shortstop during the club's 2005 Northern League championship season and 2006 return trip to the league finals.

Pecci, known for his hustling style of play and team concept, also holds the RailCats career records in sacrifice hits and sacrifice flies while ranking in the top four in runs scored, base hits, and at bats.

Pecci hit .277 in 88 games with the RailCats in 2006 and started all nine playoff games. His most memorable moment came on July 4th vs. Winnipeg at U. S. Steel Yard, when he connected on a game-winning two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, capping a RailCats four-run rally in a 12-10 victory.

The 2007 season will mark Pecci's 10th year in professional baseball. He played in the Oakland A's, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle Mariners organizations, reaching the Triple-A level. Pecci was a PAC 10 All-Conference and Academic All-Conference selection at Stanford University.

RailCats 2007 ticket packages and merchandise are available at U. S. Steel Yard or by calling (219) 882-2255.
