Peanuts Take Game One, Second Game Rained Out

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, moved their record to 19-8 on the season with a rain-shortened game against the Bradenton Juice. South Georgia was 2-0 in a game that was called after six innings. The game was originally scheduled for seven innings and as game one of a double-header. The second game of the double header was cancelled due to the rain and field conditions that got the first game called.

South Georgia started pitcher Mike Colacchio for the first time this season. A pitcher who has been one of the most consistent relief pitchers all season long for the Peanuts was very effective in four innings of work. Colacchio did not allow a run on two hits with one strikeout. Jake Upwood pitched two perfect innings recording three strikeouts to get his first win of the season.

South Georgia got two runs in the fourth inning for everything they needed to get the win. Bradenton pitcher Lavelle Morgan walked in Jon Zeringue and Nick Prosise in the frame. Overall Morgan was quite good. Hi pitched all six innings only allowing four hits with four strikeouts.

South Georgia hits the road for a week on Thursday. The Peanuts open up a three game set in Charlotte County against the Cecil Fielder managed Redfish. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard on "1450 The Fan" and online at SouthGeorgiaPeanuts.com.
