Peanuts Open Home Stand With Win

August 2, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, returned home on Thursday night and ended a two-game losing streak. The Peanuts moved to 47-17 on the season and 14-6 in the second half with a 4-2 victory over Charlotte County. The victory moved South Georgia to 15-1 against the Redfish this season.

The Peanuts held the lead for most of the game. In the second inning, Jasha Balcom led off with a single, stole second and then scored on a Johnny Washington single. The Peanuts scored another run in the fifth when Curtis Goodwin Sr. walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice and came around to score on a Kyle Keen base hit.

South Georgia got a little breathing room in the sixth inning by scoring two more runs. Dustin Taylor and Mike Caruso each had an RBI in the inning while Washington and Taylor each scored a run. Those two runs proved to be very important as the Redfish scored two runs in the eighth inning. Those would be the only runs the Redfish would score.

The pitching was great for South Georgia on the night. Taylor got the start and did not allow a run through the first seven innings before the two runs came across in the eighth. Mike Colacchio pitched .2 innings and did not allow a hit with a strikeout. Drew Shetrone pitched the ninth to pick up his league-leading ninth save of the season.

The Peanuts go for the series win over Charlotte County on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:10 with Austin Weilep getting the start. Tickets are still available by visiting the Peanuts box office at Paul Eames Park or by logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and worldwide at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
