Peanuts lose series finale

July 7, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, finished the first half of the SCL season with a 7-6 loss to Bradenton. South Georgia finished the first half with a record of 33-11. The Peanuts served as the road team despite playing at home as this game was originally scheduled for Bradenton. The game ended in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off hit from relief pitcher Wayne Hedden.

After the Peanuts won the first-half championship, this game was a game that the Peanuts were playing just for pride. The game could have some significance for Bradenton if and only if South Georgia wins the second half championship as well and Bradenton is fighting for the second best overall record.

South Georgia led 6-5 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs, Jean Castro reached on an error and then advanced to third on an Andrew York single. Bradenton manager James Frisbee allowed Hedden to bat for himself and he hit a double to win the game.

The game featured five errors from South Georgia as the team did not look very similar to the squad who played so well during the rest of the first half. The Peanuts were led by Brandon Woolard who went 2-5 with two RBI and one run.

Dustin Taylor got the start for the Peanuts. He was not as sharp as normal but still put up pretty good numbers allowing one earned run in five innings of relief.

South Georgia begins the second half on Monday at home against Aiken. First pitch is set for 7:10. First pitch is set for 7:10. Tickets are still available by visiting the Peanuts box office or visiting southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
