Peanuts Add Utility Outfielder to Roster

The South Georgia Peanuts have announced the signing of Steve Garrabrants. Garrabrants, a native of Phoenix, AZ, has spent the last 4 seasons in the Diamonbacks organization after being selected in the ninth round of the 2003 amateur draft. With the signing, the Peanuts' roster currently sits at 22 players.

Garrabrants played his college baseball at Arizona State. During his final year as a Sun Devil, he hit .324 with eight home runs and 59 RBI. After being drafted, he appeared in 55 games and hit .276 for Class-A Yakima. In 2004, his first full professional season, Garrabrants began the season playing for the Diamondbacks' Class-AAA team at Tucson. He only appeared in six games before spending the rest of the year at Class-AA and A. He spent the entire 2005 season at Class-A Lancaster. Last season, he played 105 games at Class-AA Tennessee.

At Arizona State and at the beginning of his professional career, Garrabrants was primarily used as an infielder. He then made the transition to the outfield where he played the majority of the time the past two seasons. He was released by the Diamondbacks during spring training. This will be his first time playing independent baseball.

The Peanuts will begin to report to Albany the first week of May. Spring training will begin on May 8th.
