In the Saturday night Throwbacks-Slam game, the Throwbacks took it to the Slam with a 121-113 victory. Stanley Thomas, the Throwbacks' top scorer, did not disappoint, as he led all Chicago scorers with 23 points, while Michael O'Neal added 22. "We needed this win to give ourselves a chance to stay in the divisional race. Our guys stepped up and accepted the challenge from a tough Jacksonville team," said head coach Donnie Boyce.
But in a rematch from last week's Dallas-Chicago battle, the Throwbacks fell to the Dallas Defenders 103-101.
The Defenders used an aggressive defense in the third quarter to rally from a eight point deficit, to take a four point lead at the start of the fourth quarter. The game was tied at 101 with fifteen seconds remaining. The Defenders Andre Heard was fouled with two seconds remaining. Heard sank both free throws, after a time out Stanley Thomas missed a potential game tying shot. "This was a game of runs, and unfortunately Dallas made theirs at the end of the game. We had our chances to put them away but was unable to close the show," said head coach Donnie Boyce.

Because the Dallas Defenders did not make the scheduled flight on time and were unable to travel to Wilmington for their Friday night game against the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, the contest was ruled a 2-0 forfeit loss for the Defenders.
The Defenders were able to regroup and defeat the Chicago Throwbacks, 103-101, at the Loos Fieldhouse.

Another victory for the Maryland Nighthawks on Saturday night, as they defeated the division-leading Wilmington Sea Dawgs 123-116 in a game that could have doubled as a rugby scrum, with both teams combining for 56 personal fouls. Derrick Payne added 23 points, while Randy "White Chocolate" Gill put 15 on the board. Omar Weaver had eight rebounds to lead all Nighthawks in pull-downs.
Then it was a return to the Hanley Center for a game against the Eastern Division-leading Rochester Razorsharks. The Quad Cities Riverhawks had four players in their lineup with six personal fouls, and committed 60 fouls against the Reading Railers in a Thursday night road game in Pennsylvania, and nearly lost the game in regulation time - and was behind by four points in OT with 30 seconds to go. But strong play by the Riverhawks' Bobby Anderson (37 points, 10 rebounds) and Ryan Edwards (30 pts) gave the Riverhawks a 124-122 overtime victory over the Railers, and moved the Moline crew to a tie with first-place Arkansas in the PBL's Western Division. John Jackson's 14 rebounds led Quad Cities in that category, while Tihon Jackson notched 10 assists.
Next up was a trip to Seaver Gymnasium and a matchup against the Rockford Fury. Led by Willie Mitchell and Ryan Edwards, who scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, the Riverhawks held off the Fury 107-106. Bobby Anderson finished the night with 14 rebounds, while Keith Gaydon had 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Mitchell and teammate John Jackson each pulled down 11 boards.
The Riverhawks finished off the three-game weekend by returning to Wharton Field House, facing the Arkansas Impact, and taking a 131-124 victory to assume top spot in the PBL's Western Division. "We wanted to go into the halfway point as the No. 1 team. This was important for our team morale," said Riverhawks coach LaTroy Farrow to the Quad City Times newspaper. Ryan Edwards scored 26 points, while Antiony Hardin (25) and Bobby Anderson (24) each showed strong nights for the Riverhawks.

The Reading Railers hosted Quad Cities for a Thursday night matchup at the Sovereign Center, and with time running out in the fourth quarter, Aaron Williams hit a last-second layup that tied the game at 111-111. In overtime, however, with Reading ahead by four points with 30 seconds left in OT, the Railers could not convert key foul shots, then watched as Quad Cities took the ball and scored, eventually watching the Riverhawks walk out of the Sovereign Center with a 124-122 overtime win. Reading went to the foul line 60 times, but missed 23 of their foul shots in the contest. Aaron Williams did finish with 24 points and 20 rebounds, as well as two blocked shots and three steals, while Jerald Brown led the Railers with 25 points.
Reading's shooting woes continued on Saturday afternoon, as the Rochester Razorsharks visited the Soverign Center. In the end, the Railers lost 95-71, with only three players reaching double figures in scoring - Ira Miller (15), Jerald Brown (12) and Andre Sweet (12). Jerald Brown led his team with eight rebounds on the night.
But on Sunday afternoon, the Railers picked up their third win of the season, facing the new Jacksonville Slam at a neutral-site game in Chicago. The Railers took a 108-97 victory over the Slam, as Jerald Brown scored 20 points, while Tayron Thomas had 19 points and a team-high 8 assists. Thomas and Andre Sweet, who finished with 18 points, came up big in the final quarter as the Railers overcame a one-point deficit at the 10-minute mark and streaked past the Slam with a 10-point run.

With the Razorsharks on the road, facing the Reading Railers at the Sovereign Center for a Saturday afternoon contest, things looked strong for the Sharks. At the end of the game, Rochester finished with a 95-71 victory, holding the Railers to a league record for fewest points scored in a game. Jerice Crouch was the top scorer for the Sharks, putting 18 points on the board, while James "Mook" Reaves had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Marlin Johnson also had 16 points, while Sammy Monroe had 10 points and 4 steals.
Rochester and Maryland battled on Sunday afternoon in Bethesda, with the Razorsharks pulling out a 108-97 victory. The Rockford Fury's two-game weekend saw the Fury take a 137-125 loss against the Arkansas Impact. Reggie George scored 31 points in the Fury loss, while Geoff Wing added 20 points.
Next up was a home game against the Quad Cities Riverhawks at Seaver Gymnasium. But despite the Fury's best efforts, and with a last-second Amir Major 3-pointer, Rockford came up short 107-106. Reggie George led the Fury with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Geoff Wing added 13 points in the Fury's losing effort. "We actually caught up and led by two at one point in the fourth," said head coach Dave Knickelbein to the Rockford Register-Star, "but then they ran off eight straight and we had to come back again. We just wound up putting them on the free-throw line too many times, but our defense showed signs of coming together and executing."

The Wilmington Sea Dawgs hoped to play against the Dallas Defenders on Friday night at the Schwartz Center, but a travel error caused the Defenders to not be able to arrive in Wilmington in time for their game. With a large crowd at the Schwartz Center as part of Wilmington's "Scout Night" promotion (all Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts got in free), immediately the PBL sent the league's emergency backup squad, the PBL Travelers, to play against the Sea Dawgs so that the team's fans would at least enjoy a good basketball game. High scorers for the Sea Dawgs were Dexter Gregory with 16 points, and Jermaine Williams with 15 points. The game was credited as a win in the standings for the Sea Dawgs, and a forfeit loss for the Dallas Defenders. Prior to the game, the team's leading scorer, Cedric McGinnis, left the team for the rest of the season due to personal issues.
Next up was a trip to the Hanley Center for a match with the Maryland Nighthawks. But this time, the Nighthawks were ready to ball - and took it to the Sea Dawgs, winning 123-116. Charles Ward had a double-double of 38 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Dawgs in both categories. Jason Pryor notched 22 points, while Jermaine Williams added 19.
Game reports compiled via team press releases, and from articles appearing in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the Reading Eagle, the Rockford Register-Star, the Quad City Times, the Wilmington Star-News, and other newspapers.
