PBL Adds Quad Cities and Rockford Teams

August 27, 2007 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release


(Chicago, IL)... The Premier Basketball League announced today the addition of the Quad Cities Riverhawks and the Rock River Fury (Rockford, IL) professional basketball teams for their inaugural PBL season beginning in January of 2008.

The Riverhawks and Fury join the Maryland Nighthawks, Minnesota Ripknees, Reading Railers, Rochester RazorSharks, Wilmington Sea Dawgs and the Dallas expansion team for the upcoming season. Additional individual team announcements will be made once ownership groups finalize the PBL application process.

"We are excited and proud to add these two organizations as charter members of the PBL", said Steve Rossi, Vice President of League Operations for the Premier Basketball League. "We are glad that these teams contacted and selected the PBL as the league that they desired to join. These two teams are proven franchises in minor league basketball and will be an asset to the PBL both on and off the court."

Both teams are owned by Tom McGinn, a Rock Falls, Illinois businessman. The Quad Cities Riverhawks are scheduled to play in the 6,000-seat Wharton Field House in Moline, Illinois, a legendary basketball arena in the Quad Cities area for more than 75 years. Last season the Riverhawks had a record of 24-9 in their first season of play in professional basketball.

The Fury, based in Rockford, Illinois, hired Dave Knickelbein to serve as General Manager-Operations and Head Coach. A PBL expansion team, the Fury will play their home games at Seaver Arena at Rockford College.

In other league news, the second PBL National Player Tryout Combine is set for Saturday, September 15, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois and will be held in McGrath Arena at DePaul University from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Players can register online at www.pblpro.com with a fee of $25.00. Player agents and professional scouts are welcome at no charge.

The PBL Lottery Draft of the top players from the national tryout combine will be held Monday, October 1, 2007.
