Adrian Brown had a single, double, triple and a walk to lead the Pawtucket Red Sox over the Red Wings 6-1 Wednesday night at Frontier Field.
Pawtucket scored in the top of the first inning when Andy Abad hit a shot to the center field wall to score Anton French from first base to put the Red Sox up, 1-0. The lead didn't last long however, the Red Wings scored a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1 when Josh Rabe hit a sacrifice ground-out to bring home Luis Rodriguez.
The Red Sox tacked on two runs in both the fourth inning and the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead over the Wings. Rodriguez finished with three hits, and Todd Sears had a pair of singles.
Red Wings starter Grant Balfour (5-2) pitched six innings allowing five runs, three earned on three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts before being relieved by Adam Johnson. Johnson worked two innings allowing one run on three hits, one walk and one strikeout. Ryan Mills finished up withone scoreless relief inning.
Notes: Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to six games Wednesday night .....Rochester is 29-13 vs. the PawSox since 2001. Prior to 2001, Rochester had not won a season series with Pawtucket since 1996 or had a winning season series record at McCoy Stadium since 1994...Before Wednesday night's game, the Red Wings bullpen had gone 3-1 with three saves and a 1.71 ERA. In 21.0 innings of work, the relivers have allowed just five runs (four earned) on 12 hits while walking six and striking out 15. Over the last 17 games, the bullpen is 5-4 with fives saves and a 2.50 ERA...Going into Tuesday night's game PawSox infielder Kevin Youkilis reached base safely in 71 consecutive games. His streak was snapped last night when he went 0-4 with one strikeout... Pawtucket is tied with IL West-leading Louisville for the best record in the entire International League.
