Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

NEW YORK - In the Atlanta Silverbacks and San Antonio Scorpions' second consecutive 3-3 draw, Silverbacks backliner Paul Black notched his second assist of his first NASL season. Thanks to his assist, coming from a defensive position, the 25-year-old Englishman was named to the NASL Team of the Week for Week 13 of the Fall Season, the League announced Wednesday morning. It's his third Team of the Week recognition since joining the Silverbacks in 2015; he received the honor in Week 7 of the Spring and Weeks 2 and 3 of the Fall.

Black connected with Jaime Chavez in the 8th minute to put Atlanta ahead in the crucial playoff implicating match in San Antonio on Sept. 26. After collecting the ball on the left touchline around midfield, Black took three touches forward before launching the left-footed cross toward the far post. Chavez, largely unmarked, nodded the ball from the top of the 6-yard box for his sixth goal of the season.

Black has served as head coach Gary Smith's most versatile player this season. Naturally a left-sided full back, Black has logged 2,116 minutes with shifts as full back, center back, wing back and midfielder since signing with the Silverbacks on Jan. 27.

Before joining Atlanta, Black made 132 appearances in the English lower divisions - including 103 matches with League One side Oldham Athletic. The product of the Manchester City's youth system joined Oldham after becoming a regular in the starting eleven during the 2006-07 season and captain for the youth squad.

The attack-minded defender also boasts call ups to the England Under-18 and Under-19 teams.

The Silverbacks open Match Day 26 at the New York Cosmos on Oct. 4 (5 p.m. | ONEWorld Sports) before returning to Atlanta Silverbacks Park for a rematch between the same two teams just three days later, on Oct. 7 (7:30 p.m.). Atlanta (7-9-9, 30 points) sits just three points outside of the fourth and final postseason berth with five matches left to play.
