Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats Hockey Club is pleased to announce the addition of legendary Pats forward Dale Derkatch to the team's scouting staff. Derkatch joins the team following a five-year stint as an amateur scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League.
"Dale is an absolute junior hockey legend, anywhere you go in Canada," said Pats VP of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Paddock. "We are excited to have someone of his experience and calibre joining the team; he has a keen eye for talent and knows what it takes to succeed in our league."
Considered by many to be the greatest Pats forward of all time, the Winnipeg-born center re-wrote the record books after joining the team for the 1981/82 season. Derkatch still leads the Pats all-time list in regular-season career goals (222), assists (269), and points (491). His 103 playoff points (including the current WHL single-season record of 53, set in 1984) are fourth all-time and first for the WHL version of the Pats.
"I'm very excited and honoured to be joining the Regina Pats Hockey Club and I want to thank General Manager John Paddock for giving me this opportunity," says Derkatch. "I'm looking forward to working with the Director of Scouting Dale McMullin and his entire scouting staff."
Derkatch has officially joined the team, effective immediately. He will be scouting prospects across Western Canada and participating in all player evaluations.
