Fayetteville Patriots News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., September 16, 2003 â Chad Bergman, who served as the Fayetteville Patriots trainer during the team's first two years of existence, has accepted a position with the San Antonio Spurs.
Bergman starts with the World Champions Spurs on Monday, Sept. 22 as the head equipment manager/assistant trainer. It is the fifth time in two years a Patriot has received an NBA callup.
"This is what this league is all about,'' Patriots coach Jeff Capel said. "Chad did a great job for us the last two years. Just speaking for myself, I'm going to miss him tremendously. But his hard work paid off and he's doing what people come to this league to do, make it to the big time."
Bergman paid his own way through college and graduated from IUPUI in 2000. Among his duties with the Patriots was helping players rehabilitate injuries, handling of all Patriots apparel and taking care of all the Patriots equipment.
He joins guards Devin Brown (he was called up twice) and Omar Cook as Patriots callups. Bergman joins Brown in San Antonio. The Spurs signed Brown in July.
